Dear ECE Students,
Many in our community are still struggling to come to terms with the recent death of ECE PhD student Huixiang Chen. You may also have seen or heard a lot of discussions, in person, in emails, and on social media, concerning Huixiang's faculty advisor, Dr. Tao Li. The department, the college, and the university are all taking these allegations extremely seriously, and there are multiple inquiries underway at this time. The university just released a statement concerning these events which can be seen here: http://statements.ufl.edu/statements/2019/july/university-statement-regarding-student-death.html.
There will be a memorial service for Huixiang on Wednesday, July 10 at 2pm at the Baughman Center on campus. All wishing to attend are encouraged to do so. This has been an extremely difficult time for the department. A loss like this is so sad for all of us. Our thoughts and condolences are with Huixiang’s family, friends, and colleagues. As these events continue to affect us all, we would like to provide links to campus resources for anyone affected by uncertainty, stress, or grief stemming from these events. Finally, for our Chinese students, one of our staff members, Grace Hong, is fluent in Mandarin and has already provided informal support to a number of students affected by Huixiang's death.
