SMT Forge

SMT FORGE:

Imagine designing a circuit board from your own room or lab whenever you wanted. SMT Forge is a design team that is part of Gator Robotics. It focuses on rapid prototyping and small-scale manufacturing of circuits.

It combines the following:
  1. PCB milling
  2. Pick and Place
  3. Soldering
Here is a video on another concept of the pick and place machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTaeEG4P-E4
www.youtube.com
This is a first test with placing parts. The vision alignment is not yet optimized (it could move in the X-Axis while measuring and save quite some time) but...

The challenge is to build one that is suitable to have in a professor’s lab. This project needs mechanical engineers who:
  • Can work in a group setting
  • Can perform research on assigned tasks
  • Are coachable
  • Have taken SolidWorks and/or Design and Manufacturing Lab
What you learn:
  • How to implement the engineering design process from the ground up
  • How to make designing decisions
  • How electrical and mechanical engineering come together
  • How circuit boards work
If you love the idea and follow the qualifications, this team is for you! To learn more about the team, follow this website: https://gatorrobotics.com/smt-forge/
