Top 12 Hidden Gem Colleges for Employers Hiring Electrical Engineering Majors (UF is number 5)
Top 12 Hidden Gem Colleges for Employers Hiring Electrical Engineering Majors
https://www.collegerecruiter.com/blog/2015/04/15/top-12-hidden-gem-colleges-for-employers-hiring-electrical-engineering-majors/
April 15, 2015 by Steven Rothberg
Minneapolis, MN, April 15, 2015 — College Recruiter, the leading niche job board used by recent college graduates to find entry-level jobs and students to find internships, today announced the 12 winners of its 2015 Hidden Gem Index for the best colleges and universities for employers who want to hire high quality graduates who majored in electrical and electronics engineering.
“There are a lot of awards out there for best colleges,” said Steven Rothberg, president and founder of College Recruiter, “but they almost all focus on starting salary, percentage of graduates employed upon graduation, or percentage of graduates employed within their chosen career path upon graduation. There’s nothing wrong with those rankings but they fail to tell the entire picture. They miss schools which are hidden gems because they do an incredibly great job of taking students who may not have been able to get into the most expensive or most prestigious schools but who are hired into the same types of jobs with the same types of companies paying the same types of starting salaries.”
College Recruiter used its custom research product to generate this ranking. Our database includes 185 majors at virtually every one of the 4,000 one- and two-year colleges and 3,000 four-year colleges and universities in the United States. A custom labor market or salary research report can tell an employer, for example, what the going rate is for a recent graduate with a certain major at a specific school. Other common queries include data related to SAT scores, gender, ethnicity, as well as tenure and turnover of employees.
The modeling for this hidden gem school project was to identify the schools which featured high SAT/ACT scores for entering students, high average starting salaries for the regions in which the schools were located, a high percentage of graduates working in their chosen field of study, and a majority of the graduating class available for recruitment by employers. The availability factor distinguishes many of the excellent from the hidden gem schools. An excellent school may have a high percentage of its graduating class already committed to work for other employers or going to graduate school but that is not a school at which most employers will find success in their effort to hire graduates. A hidden gem school, on the other hand, is one at which employers are likely to find high quality candidates who are ready, willing, and able to say yes to an offer of employment.
The top 12 hidden gem schools are:
1. University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
2. Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus
3. University of Maryland-College Park
4. Brigham Young University-Provo
5. University of Florida
6. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
7. The University of Texas at Austin
8. University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
9. North Carolina State University at Raleigh
10 University of Colorado Boulder
11. University of Nebraska-Lincoln
12. The University of Texas at Dallas

RE: Updates on the EEL3008 for Spring 2016
Dear ECE Students:
As we make the transition from the old EE curriculum to the one, the prerequisites for some courses are changing. In particular, starting in spring 2016, EEL 3008 Physics of Electrical Engineering will be a prerequisite for EEE3308C, EEE3396C and EEL3472C, plus some other classes. This email is to clarify how these courses will be handled as we transition between old and new versions of these classes.
EEL 3008 will not be enforced as a prerequisite for 3211C, 3308C, 3396C, 3472C or 4260C in fall 2015, but EEL 3008 will be required as a prerequisite for these classes starting spring 2016.
Students who have taken two or more of 3308, 3396 and 3472 should not take 3008.
Students in the old EE curriculum who have taken two of the required classes 3308, 3396 and 3472 should take the third one by fall 2015.
Students in the old EE curriculum who have taken at most one of 3308, 3396 and 3472 will be allowed to take 3008 plus two others to satisfy their requirements in these classes. In effect, such students will be allowed to substitute 3008 for one of those three required classes.
If you have any questions about the changes, please see Nicole
