Critical Tracking Course Policy

Dear EE Majors,

Critical Tracking records each student’s progress in courses that are required for entry to each major. Please note the critical-tracking requirements below on a per-semester basis. Equivalent critical-tracking courses, as determined by the State of Florida Common Course Prerequisites, may be used for transfer students.
/Critical Tracking must be completed in your first five semesters
The critical-tracking courses are MAC 2311MAC 2312MAC 2313MAP 2302PHY 2048PHY 2049, and CHM 2045 or CHM 2095.  Critical Tracking records each student’s progress in courses that are required for entry to each major.  The completion of critical-tracking courses requires a minimum grade of C in each course but must have an overall tracking  GPA of 2.5 (as computed on the maximum of two attempts allowed for each course, including withdrawals).  If a student earns C in three or more tracking courses, their critical-tracking GPA will be below a 2.50.

RE: Huixiang Chen

Dear ECE Students,

Many in our community are still struggling to come to terms with the recent death of ECE PhD student Huixiang Chen. You may also have seen or heard a lot of discussions, in person, in emails, and on social media, concerning Huixiang's faculty advisor, Dr. Tao Li. The department, the college, and the university are all taking these allegations extremely seriously, and there are multiple inquiries underway at this time. The university just released a statement concerning these events which can be seen here: http://statements.ufl.edu/statements/2019/july/university-statement-regarding-student-death.html.

There will be a memorial service for Huixiang on Wednesday, July 10 at 2pm at the Baughman Center on campus. All wishing to attend are encouraged to do so. This has been an extremely difficult time for the department. A loss like this is so sad for all of us. Our thoughts and condolences are with Huixiang’s family, friends, and colleagues. As these events continue to affect us all, we would like to provide links to campus resources for anyone affected by uncertainty, stress, or grief stemming from these events. Finally, for our Chinese students, one of our staff members, Grace Hong, is fluent in Mandarin and has already provided informal support to a number of students affected by Huixiang's death. We’ve included her contact information below.

Sincerely,

John

GENERAL RECRUITING POLICIES FOR STUDENTS

Summer Internship Opportunity

Summer Internship Opportunity

Mitchell Gulledge Engineering (MG) is a Gainesville, FL firm in search of a paid Electrical Engineering Intern for the summer of 2019. Any students finishing their sophomore or junior year of their engineering program are invited to contact amccaddin@mitchellgulledge.com with inquiries and resumés.
MG provides consulting services in the building construction field. We work with architects and owners to design building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. Designing such systems requires extensive knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, and best practices. MEP design is a field requiring professional engineering licensure, and provides competitive pay and geographic flexibility.
An MG intern will work alongside experienced professionals to design power, lighting, fire alarm, lightning protection, and telecom systems. The intern will learn about electrical power systems, the construction industry, and professional opportunities as a licensed electrical engineer. Interns will be challenged to expand their understanding of the systems they are designing.
Experience in the MEP field is not required, but is advantageous. Revit and AutoCAD experience is preferred. Internships will last a minimum of two months. Hours are flexible and the environment is as laid back and casual as engineering production will allow.
Mitchell Gulledge Engineering is family-focused local company. We maintain a culture of collaboration where open dialog creates a sustainable and efficient working environment. Our engineering practice is based on always doing the right thing for projects, owners, and users. We work hard to deliver projects on time, in budget, and properly designed.
Interested students may request an interview by e-mailing amccaddin@mitchellgulledge.com with a resume.
If you would like to speak with a previous intern from this firm, email Dean Drafts at ddrafts@ufl.edu with any questions.

To whom it may concern,
My name is Brandon and I am on the recruitment team of a student-run startup called Symbionix. We are devoted to 3D printing prosthetic limbs to eventually make them commercially available to the surrounding community. We are currently looking for electrical engineering students to join our team. We are located at the Gator Hatchery in Infinity Hall and are currently working on finishing up prototypes for release in the near future.
Specifically, we are looking for students with proven design experience in embedded systems, interfacing multiple sensors, circuit analysis, and/or PCB design. These students will focus on aiding our transition from an Arduino platform to an MSP432.
If you are interested in joining our team, please click https://www.empowered-prosthetics.org/careers, scroll to the bottom, and fill out their form. Contact symbionix.us@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to hearing from you!

All the best,
