Technical Writing Fellows Needed at UF’s Office of Technology Licensing

The Office of Technology Licensing (OTL) at the University of Florida is responsible for transferring UF discoveries from the laboratory to the market to make the world a better place! OTL is a fast-paced, friendly, professional environment with many opportunities to learn and develop real-world skills in research, technical copy writing and marketing. If you geek out on technology and you’re dependable, goal-oriented and have a science or health related background, you could become a valued part of our team!

Fellows draft descriptions of technologies, assemble targeted contact lists for high-tech discoveries and help with various other special projects. See examples of materials drafted for technologies in several disciplines at www.technologylicensing.research.ufl.edu.

This is a paid position and benefits include access to startups and other entrepreneurial professionals who work in the Innovation Hub at UF, where the OTL offices are located. The first building in Innovation Square, the Innovation Hub is a unique business incubator that shortens the journey from discovery to the marketplace for Florida’s tech startup companies.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Available to work 12-15 hours/week
  • Available for at least two semesters
·         Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to review materials and draw out the most important information
  • Ability to pay close attention to details
  • Proven writing ability, preferably for marketing-focused communications
  • An interest in science

Preferred qualifications:
·         Experience in translational science or health communications
·         A background in electrical or mechanical engineering

To apply
Email a statement expressing your interest in this position, your resume, and an indication of your available hours over the summer (and fall semester if you know already) to Michelle Friedline at mmango@ufl.edu.
