HWCOE scholarship applications are open.  Please apply by the deadline date. To be considered for Electrical and Computer Engineering Scholarships, you must apply to the college scholarships.

Undergraduate Scholarship Application

Submitting this application will make you eligible for scholarships offered to undergraduate students by the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering for the 2017-2018 school year. The application opens for submissions on October 27, 2016, and the submission deadline is December 12, 2016.
Some scholarships offered through this program are need-based. In order for you to be considered for need-based scholarships, you must complete a FAFSA each year. You can file a FAFSA as early as January 1 each year. Please refer to http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/applying/how-to-apply for instructions on how to file a FAFSA.
Students selected to receive scholarships will be notified by email. Only those students selected will be notified.

Changes in pre-reqs to EEL3135 and EEL3000

Hi EE Majors!!
This is reminder the pre-reqs for EEL3000 and EEL3135 have changed per the EE Curriculum Committee.  MAS3114-Computational Linear Algebra is not pre-req for EEL3000- Intro to ECE and EEL3135 Signals & Systems  as of Spring 2017.   You are able to take MAS3114 and EEL3135 at the same time.

Come out to our introductory electronics workshop! We will be going over building circuits on breadboards using passive and integrated circuit components, proper debugging tools using the Analog Discovery Board, and basic soldering tutorials!

This workshop is geared towards freshmen or sophomores who will be or just took digital logic/circuits 1 but everyone is welcome!

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs sponsors a 10-week summer internship program for students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The program provides students with quality research experiences at federal research facilities located across the country and allows students the opportunity to establish connections with DHS professionals. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students in a broad spectrum of HS-STEM disciplines and DHS mission-relevant Research Areas.

Undergraduate students receive a $6,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

Graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

New Course for Spring 2017 EEL4930/EEL5934 Modern Memory Device Technologies

EEL 5934/4930 Modern Memory Device Technologies

Big data applications drive growing needs of big memory. These applications will require lower latency to access your data, as well as cheaper and massive memories to store your data. It has presented a new challenge for the semiconductor industry. This course discusses how various modern memory device technologies work. The topics include discussions of various state-ofthe-art volatile and nonvolatile memory device technologies and their limitations. To go beyond these limitations, the course explores emerging memory device technologies, including those that could be adopted by industry in the next decades in computers and mobile devices due to potential performance, density, power and cost advantages.

In addition, deep learning and neuromorphic computing algorithms do not run efficiently in state-of-the-art computer hardwares. Device technologies in future neuromorphic processors that mimic how human brain works, such as memristors, will be discussed. The realization of memristive functionalities is closely related to the emerging memory device technologies.

Prerequisite: The students are expected to have already completed an introductory level device course at the undergraduate level, such as EEE3396c here at UF or any equivalent course at other institutes.

Goals:
(1) Explore state-of-the-art memory technologies
(2) Introduce emerging memory technologies for future big data applications
(3) Understand mechanisms and limitations of each memory device technology
(4) Introduce memristive devices for neuromorphic computing
