ECE Critical Deadline Dates:

EE STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT EGN4912 and EEL4905 TO ME FOR REGISTRATION ONLY!!!

 EEL4905 and EGN4912 forms must be submitted to my office for registration by Friday, January 9 by 4:00 pm.

ECE Department Scholarships
Information regarding departmental scholarships will be sent out sometime in the near future. Our timeline has not yet been finalized so we appreciate your patience. We are currently in the process of ranking the college scholarship applications and will be submitting this information for review sometime this month.

For EE majors that are planning to graduate this semester Spring 2017, should have received an email from me with the directions on how to complete “Grad Check”.  If you have already sent an email to me, thank you.  You will receive an email from me confirming completion of “Grad Check.  If not have not sent an email, please do so by the deadline date. Please complete your degree application by the January 10th.  The degree application is completed through ONE.UF site or www.student.ufl.edu .

To graduate with honor chords you must meet a certain GPA requirement with your upper division GPA. Upper division GPA is located in the middle of your degree audit. If your upper division GPA is a minimum of 3.30 you are able to graduate with honors (Cum Laude). If your upper division GPA is minimum 3.50 or 3.80 and writing a thesis or completing research project, you are eligible to graduate Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude respectively.  If you are completing research project and/or thesis, please send me an email with the title and the faculty advisor you are working with by January 15^th (if you have not done so already). 

For students in the catalog year 2015 and 2016. You must earn a C in the courses listed below for them to count towards your degree completion and to move on to the next courses in the sequence.

RE: CISE courses (If you are completing the minor or taking sequencing courses)

Hi EE Majors:

For CISE courses that are prerequistes of each other. (COP3502, 3503, COT3100, COP3530, CDA3101, COP4600) You must have earned a C or higher.

Please note: if you are in a CISE course in Spring 2017 for which you do not have a prerequisite course (that you may not have passed that you were taking in Fall 2016), YOU MUST DROP THE COURSE NOW. If you do not drop the course, you will likely be dropped from the course after drop/add by the CISE advisor; at that point you will be responsible for the fees associated with the course.

Undergradaute Research Position in the McKnight Brain Institute

Hi EE Majors,

The field of neuroscience no longer resides within the biology department, but now has boarders that extend into physics, math and engineering. This is due for the explicit need for novel scientific approaches that include advanced analytical approaches, software design, and robotics. Therefore, we are looking for talented, self-motivated, forward-thinking students in the Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and CISE to join our research investigating how the brain, complete with its own wiring and software, is capable of memory, cognition, and adaptation. Responsibilities will include software coding, data collection, organization, and analysis and/or light-robotics for dynamic environmental control (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Experience with Servo and Stepper motors, etc.). We are looking for students with a strong familiarity with C/C++. Soldering skills and other languages (MATLAB, R, Python) are a plus. We use rodent models so a general interest in psychology and animal behavior is encouraged. This position would begin in the Spring and require 10 hours a week (with research credits possible).

Hi EE Majors,

The Student Services Office will be closed December 19-January 3 for office renovations. I can be reached via email through December 21, 2016 until noon.  I will be on vacation as of noon on December 21, 2016 to January 2, 2017.  On January 3, 2017, I will not have advising hours due to Transfer Preview.

Engineering Week 2017

Hello,

My name is Katie Thorp and I am the Assistant Director for the Benton Engineering Council’s Engineers Fair 2017. The fair takes place at the Reitz Union on February 21-22, 2016 and we are seeking students to share their research with a poster for the symposium. Students who have projects with an interactive element or display will be given preference. All classes in NEB will be cancelled for the rest of the day

Dear ECE Students,

I just spoke with the Dean. All classes in NEB will be cancelled for the rest of the day. They will resume as usual tomorrow morning. Our students services office will alert all of our students, grad and undergrad. Faculty can also email the students in their courses to make sure they get the word. 

Faculty, staff and grad students will be able to return to their offices and labs in NEB as soon as the building is reopened. Hopefully NEB will reopen by 3pm.
