Why Power Electronics?

•Extremely wide applications:
All electronics products, from computers, iPhones, appliance, medical equipment, PV inverters, lighting, electric vehicles, IC, Oil well drilling and Boeing 787 etc. MUST use power electronics,

•Excellent intern and job market:
Students are receiving multiple offers from IC design companies such as Intel, TI and Linear Tech, electric vehicle companies such as Tesla and Ford, consumer electronics companies such as Apple and Samsung, IT companies such as Google and Facebook, other big names include QUALCOMM, GE, ABB, United Technologies etc

What is Power Electronics?
Power electronics is the applications of solid-state electronics for the control and conversion of electric power
(AC: Alternating current, DC: Direct current)

•Prerequisites: EEE3308C- Electronics Circuits 1
•Textbook: R. Erickson, Fundamentals of Power Electronics, Springer, 2nd Ed, ISBN #: 978-0792372707
•Evaluation: Homework, Quizzes, Midterm Exams, Final Exam, Two Projects
•Teaching Philosophy: my teaching objective is NOT to test students, my objective is make sure students can learn power electronics from my class.

Undergraduate scholarships are offered through the College of Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. ECE students interested in applying for a scholarship will fill out a College of Engineering (COE) Undergraduate Scholarship Application online. The COE Undergraduate Scholarship Application is available during Fall semesters. COE representatives will email a link to all COE undergraduate students when the scholarship application is available.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic performance, geographical location, student activities, and/or area of specialization. Scholarships are limited to US citizens and Permanent Residents and some are limited to only Florida residents. All scholarships require the student have an upper division grade point average from the University of Florida. It is not necessary to directly contact the department regarding eligibility for the scholarships listed below. The COE application data is evaluated to determine eligibility and award ECE scholarships.
