Hi EE Majors;
I will be recruiting co-ops in Gainesville next week. Here
are some details about the positions I will be hiring for:
- We’re a small to medium sized team located in Louisville and Seoul (most full-time developers have had the opportunity to travel to Seoul)
- We develop in C (production code) and various scripting languages (tooling)
- We work in a resource-constrained environment with (generally) no heap, and primarily run bare metal but some projects use an RTOS
- We are Agile!
- We’re heavily invested in Test Driven Development (TDD) which is a great way to work
- We use continuous integration to automate builds and identify issues quickly
- We’re invested in continuous learning and developers have the opportunity to attend software conferences
- MacBook Pros are available to all developers in Louisville and the vast majority choose to use a Mac
- We’re doing a lot of work towards making connected appliances — this means creating both highly debuggable platforms for development as well as enabling Internet of Things (IoT) functionality
- Co-ops will write production code and will have the opportunity to work alongside full-time engineers
- The software team is the best team at GE – we have a relaxed dress code, great bosses, and a ping pong table that gets a lot of use
- Prior knowledge/experience is great, but what we value most is someone who is passionate and can learn
Essential Responsibilities:
Co-ops joining our team have opportunities to complete
innovative technical assignments in a variety of product areas including
appliances (refrigeration, washer systems and cooking products) and Internet of
Things (IOT) technologies. The SW co-ops
will be exposed to fast paced projects developing embedded C code and a variety
of languages to implement product features and connectivity for appliances.
While, also, learning a wide variety of
processes for embedded development, including Test Driven Development(TDD),
Agile and Continuous Integration. Our
co-ops get to work on some of the newest innovations that will impact our
environment. Sustainability initiatives
are a company-wide commitment to imagine and build innovative solutions that
benefit our consumers and society at large. Some of these Eco-friendly products
that our co-ops have contributed to are the GE Profile Harmony laundry pair,
which delivers energy and water savings using a HydroMotion wash. If every U.S.
household owning a washer not qualified ENERGY STAR were to replace it with a
GE Profile Harmony washer, we could save enough water each year to fill nearly
400,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Refrigerators with FrostGuard defrost 20
percent less than conventional units, keeping frozen foods at their best. The
system, working independently, uses a dual evaporator system to provide the
best environment for fresh and frozen food. The decrease in greenhouse gas
emissions over the life of all the GE ENERGY STAR -qualified refrigerators that
were sold in 2005 is equivalent to eliminating more than 71,000 cars from U.S.
roads for an entire year. The benefits of this experience extend beyond the
exciting work assignments and competitive wages. We value development and offer
several training opportunities to enhance students' technical and professional
development including, communication skills and resume writing. Our co-ops
participate on committees of their peers that offer opportunities to network
with the leaders of the company. The committees perform many community service
activities such as mentoring/tutoring elementary students. The co-ops have many
social events both in and out of work. These include lunches, weekend
activities, sports, and cookouts.
